This program is a three (3) day intensive professional training aimed at developing counsellor competencies through a person-centred Expressive Therapies approach. The program content encompasses theory, frameworks, structured experiential exercises, self-reflection, and somatic awareness to support the counselling process for children and adolescents.
All activities are conducted in an ethical manner and in accordance with professional counselling practices.

Ms Paula is an experienced workshop facilitator with over 15 years of delivering professional development training to multidisciplinary teams. As an Expressive Therapist, Counsellor, Clinical Supervisor, and Trainer, she specializes in expressive therapies, sand play therapy, and symbol work. Over the past two decades, she has supported children, adolescents, and adults in both educational settings and private practice through person-centred, emotion-focused, and somatic-based approaches.
Her training encompasses both top-down and bottom-up therapeutic methods, grounded in strengths-based and Rogerian client-centred principles that respect each client's individuality and context. She is committed to creating safe and supportive learning environments where participants can deepen their skills, reflect on their practice, and integrate creative, trauma-informed methods into their work.
Her facilitation style combines professional expertise with warmth and accessibility, equipping practitioners to apply expressive therapy tools effectively and ethically in their client work.

Explain the principles and practices of expressive therapies and how they support growth, change, and emotional integration.

Apply the Expressive Therapy 5-stage model to structure and guide counselling sessions.
Use creative modalities (writing, role-play, symbol work, art, movement, bioenergetics, mindfulness) to enhance self-expression and the therapeutic process.
Facilitate first-session and rapport-building activities that foster safety, engagement, and trust with clients.
Integrate worksheets and structured activities into sessions with clients to support reflection, emotional processing, and self-discovery.
Incorporate multiple intelligences theory to adapt therapeutic approaches to individual client strengths.
Recognise contraindications and limits of emotion-focused processes to ensure safe, trauma-informed practice.
Support children, adolescents and teens within a pluralistic, client-centred framework, including engaging parents and caregivers.
Reflect on essential therapist self-awareness and professional traits needed to practice Expressive Therapy effectively and ethically.
Draw on the evidence base to articulate the effectiveness of expressive therapies in practice.
